Wednesday Walkies: Pizzey Park

MERMAID WATERS

I remember going to this park years and years ago for a Million Paws Walk, and I had no idea it incorporated such a huge off leash area so either I'm very unobservant or it's not always been off leash. Regardless, it is- and it's pretty damn awesome.

This is primarily an unfenced off leash park, which I prefer due to the fact they're generally bigger than fenced in ones (and this is no exception) and the dogs using these facilities seem to be better behaved and have owners who are, on the whole, more attentive to where the dogs are and what they're up to. Keep the lack of fencing in mind if you're planning on giving this park a visit, because even though it isn't right on a road front, no fence does mean no barrier if your dog decides to do a runner.

If your dog is in need of a fenced area, don't despair! There's a smaller fenced in park right beside the unfenced area, with plenty of space to run around and plenty of shade from the trees, the only thing your dog will miss out on is the lake.

The highlights of this park is definitely the over all space, as well as the large lake right in the centre that the dogs can swim in. It's sandy bottomed, and Prim came out as clean as she went in- not always a guarantee with her and bodies of water! Although it is deep enough for swimming, it's a gradual deepness that gives a nice gentle slope in, so perfect for little dogs, puppies, and those who might like to get their feet wet but not go for a full paddle. Prim thought that another highlight was the abundance of pinecones- perfect for playing fetch in the water!

Access is easy, and there's a decent amount of parking right beside the off leash area. Two pergolas with some seating are available, right near the car park as well.

We were there on a Sunday afternoon to check out a Sled Dog Racing QLD demo, which is usually a time that I avoid off leash anything like the plague, but it actually wasn't that busy, and the area is large enough that you can find your own little pocket of space.
