Wednesday Walkies: Paradise Point Parklands

The Esplanade

PARADISE POINT

I dropped into this little off leash beach on the way back from Collingwood Court Parklands, with my very muddy and stinky dogs so they could have a rinse off in the water. Google Maps was my guide, having never been here before, and I parked at the start of the Parklands and then had a decent walk along the foreshore with my dogs on lead before getting to the beach where they were allowed off leash.

There's plenty of parking space all along here (although I would be hesitant to generalise that to the weekend), and a flat concrete path dotted with water stations for you and your dog, as well as bins and poo bag dispensers, so it really doesn't matter where along The Esplanade you park if you're fine with a little stroll. Alternatively, there's a small basic area at the end of the street right in front of the dog beach.

We went at high tide, just as it happened to be, and there was minimal sand. As the stretch of beach is so short, though, making this more of a swimming spot than a beach walking area, we didn't really mind. The area is clearly signposted and well defined, with little pontoon type jetties and signs at either end of the beach section. It should be noted as well that it is only the reach of the beach back that is off leash, and your dog needs to be leashed up again before leaving the sand.

It's a nice, calm section of water with a gradual slope out that makes it perfect for swimming. My dogs had a great time and met some other very well behaved other dogs there as well, which always makes for a more pleasant off leash experience.
