Armstrong Road

MEADOWBROOK

I would put Riverdale Park in the same category as Damien Leeding Memorial Park: good for a daily walk if you're local, or an occasional trip for a change of scenery if you're a little bit further away. It's a pretty standard park, with a well laid flat concrete path looping around, and plenty of open green space dotted with gazebos and seating.

Being a standard park, this place is obviously on leash only, however there are two large off leash, totally fenced in yards at the very entrance to the park: one for small dogs, one for big dogs. Both have gazebos and seating for people, and water and agility equipment for dogs. Both yards were busy when we went, and the large dog yard had an assortment of rather apathetic owners sitting and having a chat with each other while their dogs barked, and rushed at and then ran the fence line as I was walking my four dogs past. I've also been to this park with my TAFE class, for a doggy daycare prac session as it's just a five minute or so walk down the road from the TAFE site, and encountered the exact same behaviour from a different group of dogs and owners- so just something to bear in mind if you have a dog who reacts to that sort of inappropriate behaviour from other dogs.

Apart from the reactive dogs, we enjoyed our little explore of this park. It took us about a half hour to walk the loop around the park, at a fairly quick pace, so it's a good stretch of the legs. The path is wonderfully shady as well, and even on the hot mid afternoon that we went, it was actually quite cool and pleasant; you're close to the river, and there's a large pond there as well, although dogs need to be kept out of it, so no swimming! This park is also used for Parkrun, so there are markers on the path that you could use as a guide if you can figure out what the heck they mean.

An added final bonus point to mention for Riverdale Park is the ample amount of parking, and not just in the one area. It's a pretty busy spot on nice days, especially on the weekend, so that's a definite plus.
